Why I Belong

On this page, a few of our parishioners share why they belong to St. Stephen's. You can see that we have a lot going for us, but come and see for yourself; there's a place here for you, too.

Michael and I found St. Stephen's through a good friend. We were looking for something other than the Catholic church within which we both grew up. We wanted to start our lives in an open and welcoming church that was understanding and flexible and loving.

We got it all at St. Stephen's. We got married there in 2001. It was such a beautiful wedding in such a historic and bucolic setting — we couldn't have asked for anything more. But we got more in February of 2005 when we walked through the door one Sunday morning with our newly adopted 1-year-old daughter from China, Tansey. As usual we were a little late...so we walked in to a full church just about to start services, and as soon as we walked in everybody stood and clapped for our new family. They had followed us through our journey to adopt Tansey and they were all so supportive and so thrilled. It was a moment our family will never forget. We continue to attend services at St. Stephen's and feel part of the community. It is a wonderful place to worship, pray and to just be.

Here's to St. Stephen's, a church where you can find meaningful sermons, comfort and assistance when in need, an atmosphere that embraces religious and cultural differences, children's involvement through Sunday school and camp as well as community activities, and last, but certainly not least, fellowship with generous, thoughtful, and caring parish friends. the Desmarais family standing in front of St Stephen's Church

We chose St. Stephen's because of the family-friendly environment, especially the time the pastor spends during each service speaking directly with the children, and because of his sermons. We also have really enjoyed getting to know the friendly and welcoming congregation.

And, although these were not components in our original decision„making, we love the beautiful setting and gorgeous music.
